The Junior Section is for boys aged 8 to 11 years old.
We meet on Friday evenings between 6.30 and 7.30 pm at St Andrews' Methodist Church.
See our Calendar page for full details of when the Junior Section will be meeting.
We currently run the Anchor Boys and Junior Sections together for practicality reasons. This does not effect the activities and award schemes since they are very similar and just as much fun at any age.
We have lots of fun doing different activities which include making things, crafts, music, games, sports, stories, going on visits, making friends and more.
All of this is done as part of a balanced programme that is separated into five different zones:
Everything an Anchor Boy does helps them to develop and to think for themselves, in a safe environment.
Our experienced Leaders are CRB checked and will make every effort to ensure your childs' safety. See our Information for Parents/Guardians section for more details.
The Officer in charge of the Junior Section is Iain Strachan.
The Juniors Activity Programme provides an informal award scheme. This means boys will gain their awards as they take part in the usual programme activities.
The Junior Target Award requires 5 activities, one from each of the five zones and is usually awarded shortly after joining the Junior Section.
The Junior Bronze Award requires 10 activities with at least one from each of the five zones and is usually awarded at age 8/9.
The Junior Silver Award requires 20 activities with at least three from each of the five zones and is usually awarded at age 9/10.
The Junior Gold Award requires 20 activities with at least three from each of the five zones and is usually awarded at age 10/11.
In order to get all 4 awards a boy needs to complete a total of 55 activities over three years. It does not matter what age your child joins at since they will join in with others their same age and participate at their own level. There is no judgment about how well they have done, all that is required is to join in and try their best.
In addition Juniors will earn a service badge which shows how many years they have been a member for. A Junior who has been with The Boys' Brigade since 5 years old can earn up to 6 years service.
We are a uniformed organisation and do expect our members to wear their full clean uniform every week. Juniors wear a blue pullover (right) and blue polo shirt (below) which is supplied to you by us. The uniform costs £25, however we will meet half that cost and only ask parents/guardians to pay £12.50. We ask for uniforms to please be returned to us when it has been outgrown or the member leaves and that way we are able to supply larger sizes (where possible) at no extra cost.
In addition members are required to wear dark trousers (school trousers are ideal), dark coloured socks and black shoes or trainers (no white socks or white trainers please). Their Badges are worn on a black armband which goes on the right arm. Click this link to see how the Junior badges are laid out on the armband.
We charge a weekly subs fee of £1 which covers the cost of heating, lighting and resources, I assure you none of it goes to the Leaders - in fact the Leaders pay subs too! When a new member first joins that first week is FREE!
